Glorious! The True Story of Florence Foster - Jenkins
The Worst Singer in the World
By Peter Quilter
Glorious! is a joyous and heart-warming comedy play based on the real life of 1940's New York socialite Florence Foster Jenkins who had a passion for singing but a voice for disaster.
Considered by many to be "The worst singer in the world" & "The First Lady of the sliding scale", she gave private recitals to fans, including Cole Porter, made bizarre recordings and gave a legendary sold out performance at New York's Carnegie Hall at the age of 76.
This delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics, instead she surrounded herself with a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was. It's a story about friends who embraced their delusions and had courage enough to follow their dreams, no matter what.

Rowntree Players show Summer 25
Rowntree Players are excited to announce they are now inviting submissions from directors for the Summer 2025 play.
Performance dates would be 10th – 12th July (including a Saturday matinee) in the Joseph Rowntree Theatre with auditions in early 2025 and rehearsal starting around early April.
We are seeking submissions for play suggestions with an accompanying creative proposal for shortlisting to 3 with follow up meetings in early November.
The play choice should be a popular show that can attract a wide audience and can be produced in a minimalist way in terms of set and staging.
Initially, we are asking for a short written pitch with the play choice, why you’d like to direct that play in particular and a brief description of proposed style, vision etc.
Pitches should be emailed to info@rowntreeplayers.co.uk by end of day on Friday 1st November.
